The Future of Purple
by Roz Liberman, APV Member
Red or blue, brown or white
Let’s agree to stop the fight;
Dreams of peace propel us all
to find success before we fall
Create a future for kids to rise
Don’t let our pride cause their demise;
All our views have many sides
Our differences need not cause divides.
In times past, agreement was sought
Instead of battling, disdain was fought;
Calling names, refusing to yield
Will never become a protective shield.
Talking with truth, respect, and heart
We share more than what pulls us apart;
If only we could erase the line
Working together is not a crime.
Why do we thrive on division and hate?
This is not meant to be our fate;
Put away the gloves and open your heart
To create a new future and do your part.
I watch my grandchildren with dreams so strong
By showing them peace, we can’t go wrong;
Our stubborn stands have failed thus far
Now, let them soar to the highest star!
It’s not so hard to listen and share.
pen our minds and work to be fair;
No way is wrong or another all right
Let’s join in the middle to win this fight.
We can create peace and joy some way
Step one is to commit to change today;
Make red and blue mean so much more
By merging as purple in 2024!
Love you all!
Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), the first Black leader of either major US political party, made his first speech as a part of the opening of the 118th Congress. What a powerful and inspiring speech!
